It’s been HOT!
This past week has been brutally hot, 96-100F (37C) in Virginia and the East Coast of the USA. We have adjusted things on the farm to keep the animals as comfortable as possible. We moved the poultry feedings to the evenings when it is cooler because when poultry eat, they generate body heat. Moving this to the cooler evening and just letting them free range during the day helps with this. The pigs have really been enjoying their big wallow and keep themselves in the mud and water to stay cool. Two large barn fans keep the air in the barn moving and the sheep have been spending the hot part of the day in the barn lounging in front of them. Everyone, gets multiple water checks during the day and ensure fresh cool water to drink. Thankfully the heat is due to break today…sad when 85F (29C) feels cool. :-)
